Losing and regaining weight can become normal and unhealthy for you. I know this is true from frustrating experience. I was 30-50 pounds overweight more than once.

Since 2006, I have been a fitness trainer.  That’s when I began to leave the “yo-yo weight loss and regain lifestyle.”  It wasn’t an easy process to change.  Here’s a little bit of my story…..

I grew up as a physically active child in New Mexico. That was how I “did fitness” for the first 21 years of my life and it was basically on “autopilot.”

I big part of my lifestyle included walking, riding a bike, Boys Club activities and playing sports year-round.

I never thought about training heart rates, body fat, muscle mass, eating right or any of those things growing up. The only requirement was that exercise had to be fun.

I was never overweight but then my life changed.

When my football playing career ended after college, I had a problem. What would I do to stay active? Exercise had always come automatically with my lifestyle.

Now, I was working behind a desk as an accountant most of the day and I had become sedentary. Except for the occasional membership on rec sports teams, I was not very active. I gained 30-50 pounds more than once over the years!  I also developed high blood pressure and high triglycerides.

So, I did what many people do. I joined a health club and began to exercise. It seemed like work instead of fun because I had never been a member of a health club.

My exercise habits would basically go this way: good workout habits for 3 months, sporadic workout habits for 3 months.

I would try starvation dieting to lose weight.  It worked until it didn’t.  I didn’t develop nutritional eating habits.

I had settled into a routine I was happy with until I started studying to become a fitness trainer in 2006.

No more yo-yo weight loss and weight regain for me!  Why?

I made lifestyle changes that lead to better long-term health.  But, as I stated before, the process was hard.  Starvation diets had only given me weight loss and regain.
