Quick weight loss diets will NEVER work for you long-term, period.  The less food you eat, the more weight you’ll lose, right?  Yes, until this process stops working for you.

Your body relies on the nutrients in whole, natural foods for fuel. When you starve yourself, it senses the downward shift in your caloric intake and kicks into starvation mode. When this happens, your metabolism will slow down and your body will hold on to stored fat in order to conserve energy.

Eating 800-1,000 calories a day for a period of just 7 days will cause your body to shift into survival mode. It thinks you are starving and stores fat to survive.

Muscle Mass Needs More Energy To Function Than Fat Mass

Basically, the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you’ll burn. If you continue to starve yourself, your body will feed on your muscle tissue and make it even harder for you to lose weight.  If you lose 40 pounds in 20 days, it will be mainly muscle mass loss and some water weight. Your body fat will still be there.

The Weight Lost From Starvation Diets Always Comes Back

As soon as you start eating normal again, you’ll regain all of the weight you lost, and more. In the end, you’ll wind up bigger than you were before you started starving.  It can take months for your metabolism to return to normal.

It’s Time To Move On To What Works To Transform Your Body

  • Stop obsessing over calorie counting

  • Ignore media reports about eating and losing weight

  • Realize that diets add unneeded stress to your life

  • Master the fundamentals of nutritional eating habits before trying specialized methods

  • Eliminate nutritional deficiencies so your body will work right

  • Realize that you can’t out-exercise bad eating habits

  • There is NOT a one-size-fits-all eating plan (i.e., diets don’t work long-term)

  • Dig in long-term to improve your health and body

There Are Other Factors To Consider When It Comes To Exercise And Fitness

Dietary preferences and allergies: For example, you may want a plant-based eating plan.  Others prefer meat in their eating plan. They both can work.  Food intolerances also must be considered.

Body Type: It’s important to portion size meals according to your body type.

Budget:  Some people have unlimited monetary budgets while others do not.  Fortunately, you don’t have to be “well off” to eat well!

Life Situation:  If you have a spouse and kids, you won’t have as much time for fitness and health.  Or, you may not be ready to make the changes it takes to transform your body.

Nutritional Practices:  If you are already following certain nutritional practices that work for you, this is not a problem.  Or, you might have little or no nutritional knowledge.

Stop Yo-Yo Weight Loss And Regain

Are you tired of losing 30 pounds and regaining 50 pounds? Are you tired of quick weight loss “solutions” that aren’t solutions (the problem gets bigger with each yo-yo weight regain)?

You can stop the weight loss/weight regain cycle.  But, somehow its not that easy for many people. Why? Because they buy in to the quick weight loss “solutions” that really don’t solve the behavioral problems.

If you want to lose 20 pounds to get ready for your friend’s wedding 3 months from now, that’s great. Don’t stop exercising and eating healthy after the wedding! Keep the good exercise and eating habits going—for life. There’s no good reason to stop. That’s how you can ultimately stop the yo-yo weight loss and regain.

It’s not only your waistline that suffers from yo-yoing. “Repeated crash dieting increases metabolic hormones, such as insulin, and elevates levels of sex hormones, including estrogen,” says Andrea Pennington, MD, author of The Pennington Plan for Weight Success. “These changes cause you to start putting on weight around your middle, which research has linked to insulin resistance, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.”

Your confidence also takes a hit. “The more times you go through the gain-lose-gain cycle, the less convinced you become that you can break free from the constant ups and downs,” says Keri Gans, RD, a dietitian in private practice in New York City. “No one wants to diet forever; it’s hard work.”

Consequences Of Consistent Severe Calorie Restriction Dieting

  • Slows metabolism

  • Weakens immune system

  • Creates hormonal imbalances

  • Aggitates the nervous system

  • Generates loss of muscle mass

  • Increases body fat, decreases energy levels

  • Disrupts sleep patterns

  • Provides short term results

  • Initiates yo-yo weight loss and regain

That sounds like bad stuff to me…..and its not worth wrecking your body to lose quick pounds!
